In order to answer the question, I’ll start with the first revealed book, Tawhrah.
Torah
Torah was revealed to Prophet Moses (A) in 'Hebrew' meaning , “teachings” or “laws”. It is still maintained in a scroll form. It’s language indicates well that for how long it has been revealed, as Hebrew is the most ancient Jewish language,that Jews of that time understood.
Zabur
Prophet Daud (A) was given with the revelation of Zabur. Now commonly known as Psalms, as it means “songs/music". It is surprising to mention here that it was revealed in the 18th day of the Holy Month of Ramadan and is in Greek.
Injeel
Injeel was revealed to Prophet Isa (A) in Araimic language. Araimic is Syrian dialect of old Hebrew used by Israelites. It means teachings and life of Christ (Gospel).
Qura’n
Qura’n was revealed in one of the odd nights of Ramadan to Prophet Muhammad (SAW). It’s in Arabic language (Bedouin dialect) means to Read (which was the first revelation also.)
Two main languages…
So here we can say, that Arabic and Hebrew were the two major languages with different dialects , in which Divine Message was revealed from time to time.
Here’s a question, “ Is Arabic another dialect of Hebrew?”
Before I answer this question, I want to mention few similar words I found in Hebrew and Arabic:
- Eloah/Elaha/Alaha is used to represent One Supreme God, i.e “Allah” in Arabic.
- Tzedakah is to give out charity. Which is similar to as of “Zakah” and “Sadqa” in Arabic.
- Kamatz/Qamat is day of Judgement, just like Qayamat in Arabic.
There are many others like Shabbath (Sabt), Shallom (Salam), Yom(Yom-day), and many more that I cited.
Almost the pronunciation and formation was same. Why is that so?
Relatability
Arabic and Hebrew belong to Semetic(Afro-Asian) language family. They both are BiDi(Bi-Directional, where pronunciation and words might resemble) yet they are both different languages.
This similarity leaves me with a question, that why people questioned Muhammad (SAW) on language of Qura’n, when it belonged to same family? It adds up to another commonality towards familiarity. The message was one, and so seems the pronunciation easily understandable of that area.
Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an that you might understand.(Al-Quran,12:2)
