The Promised Land
The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you." (Genesis,12:1)
This land was Canaan, which is known as Israel today.
Land Creates Disputes:
If we see human nature, land represents ownership and control. And humans, at many several times don’t even spare a single centimeter of land, creating many fights between each other. Land creates nuesance on the basis of “fear of loosing control and ownership-power”. Question is, Who is the Provider and Creator of this land, ownership and control that humans claim? We have seen cases where inheritance laws of land get disputed just on this particular fear. Haven’t we? What’s the promised land today that is creating disputes on earth? Let’s have a look…
Biblical/Hebrew (Araimic) Context:
In the light of Holy Bible, which consists of Old and New Testament both- I would like to quote few parts of verses that explain the Promised Land for the children of Israel with the event where they weren’t allowed to enter as a punishment from the Lord.
The verses 13 to 36 from Numbers explains the tragedy of how Israelites lost thier power and why they call it a Tragedy?
You can find the details here( https://tinyurl.com/2d5r2nms )
Summarizing it, they put thier own blame on Prophet Moses for not listening to God’s words. According to Exodus, Israelites entered the promised land but Moses wasn’t allowed to due to the reason above.
What was the God’s words that Moses didn’t follow according to biblical context?
Verse 20:8 of Numbers explains that the valley they entered needed water and according to this verse Moses was supposed to talk to a rock so it could spring water, but in verse 20:11, Moses is supposed to change God’s command and he didn’t speak to rock but “smote the rock twice” and water gushed out of the land.
When I look at the whole text, there’s some contradictions leading some questions in mind…
Firstly, How can a Prophet so dear to God can change His Command according to human will?
Secondly, If Moses didn’t enter- how come he “smote the rock..”?
Time to think…
Let’s see in the light of Qura’n.
The answer to the first question… who changed the words of God?
In the verse 2:58 of Holy Quran, Israelites are ordered to enter promised land after all they have done( the event of worshipping a calf while Hazrat Musa (A) went to Mount Toor and came back with ten commandments) with humility saying a word “Hittatun” meaning Repentance. But they did the opposite, and changed the words.
But the wrongdoers changed the words they were commanded to say. So We sent down a punishment from the heavens upon them for their rebelliousness.(Al-Quran,2:59)
So, it was the wrongdoers amongst the followers of Hazrat Musa, not him. Musa(A) carries amongst highest regards in Prophets and was quite dear to Allah, that Allah directly talked to him many times.
In the same chapter(Al-Baqara:60) of Holy Quran, God shows clearly how corrupted ones changed the word of God. The Verse is as follows:
[recall] when Moses prayed for water for his people, so We said, "Strike with your staff the stone." And there gushed forth from it twelve springs, and every people knew its watering place. "Eat and drink from the provision of Allah , and do not commit abuse on the earth, spreading corruption."
The contradiction ends here. It was God’s command to strike on Moses call to God for water to end the dispute on water amongst 12 groups of Israel.
Here’s the ending question?
Who and why someone could have created the contradiction so serious that it blames Prophet of God, in a disrespectful way?
Will God forgive them ever on this corruption?
